Wyld Networks launches innovation for colleges and universities to create infrastructure lite wireless mesh networks to engage with and protect students and staff on campus

Like businesses, colleges and universities are feeling significant pressure on their finances due to the impact of COVID-19. And like so many businesses today, colleges and universities are taking measures in order to weather the storm and come out the other side.

This is the first time our generation has experienced a pandemic of such disruption and based on a 20 year history of prior novel coronavirus outbreaks such as SARS and Bird flu we are likely to encounter new viruses, and cluster outbreaks of existing viruses. In addition, the cost in a “lack of readiness” has been astronomical.

A poll of 1,000 students, found that 44 percent reported feeling anxious about the prospect of going back to university because of the health risks posed by COVID-19 to them and those close to them.

Wyld Networks has launched Wyld Mesh and Fusion, a new mobile mesh and content delivery technology to provide universities and colleges with a unique platform to create communication channels, engage with students and staff and help them get back on campus safely.

Wyld mesh networking harnesses the power of peoples’ mobile devices by connecting smartphones directly to other smartphones and IoT devices without the need for cellular 4G/5G or Wi-Fi. Combined with Wyld’s Fusion cloud-streaming platform, a university or college can create infrastructure-lite wireless mesh networks to engage with students and staff with real-time, location-aware content delivery, messaging and safety notifications. Data simply finds the quickest and easiest route by hopping between phones, powered by an existing or new university or college branded mobile app.

The solution is built with both security and privacy as a design principal. All data is fully anonymised and only smartphones with the app installed that are inside the geozones are meshed together. As the smartphone leaves the geozone it is automatically disconnected. Multiple geozones can be created for campus environments.

Student and staff real-time and location aware communication network with safety check-in features

Once inside the geozone of the facility the technology will automatically connect all staff and students smartphones together. Real-time messages and notifications can be sent to all people with the application on their smartphones to improve communications and provide relevant real-time location aware content and information. As well as providing valuable and timely safety information, the Wyld Fusion platform can be used to deliver information on student entertainment, sporting and club activities as well as special offers in shops and cafes. The technology can be integrated in a new or existing university branded app.

An additional feature could be enabled to add into the smartphone app a check-in feature that could be used in any event for safety reasons. In the event of a serious incident operational staff could broadcast the safety check-in notification to all staff and students to inform them of the incident and request a check-in response.

Social Distance Monitoring and Alerting.

Dynamic variable geozones of 2M are created around each person as well as fixed geozones around the facilities and restricted areas to deliver rich data analytics to better inform facility managers of effectiveness of implemented social distancing and COVID-19 practices.

Analysis of data can be used to change the physical infrastructure of the building, layout lecture hall, occupancy limits, routines and practices to help students and staff avoid unintentional close contact.

Additional features, dependent on corporate privacy policy, could be implemented to alert any person within the facility of breaking the social distancing rules and could also quickly alert others who have been in close contact with anyone tested positive for COVID-19.
